REC PLANS CAN BE REVIEWED UNDER THE MUNICIPALITIES TAB
Michigan’s Department of Natural Resources (DNR) has grant programs that are available for Michigan counties and municipalities to pursue while seeking to improve their indoor and outdoor park and recreation assets and land acquisition initiatives. The three DNR Recreation Grant Programs: Michigan Natural Resources Trust Fund, Land and Water Conservation Fund, and Recreation Passport. These three programs all differ in what a county or municipality can use them for, the match ratio required when seeking awards through them, and the size of awards they may yield.
Early in 2015, EUPRPDC was awarded a grant by Michigan’s Department of Technology, Management and Budget under the Regional Prosperity Initiative (RPI) that has provided EUPRPDC with the means to provide technical assistance to municipalities in the Eastern Upper Peninsula who do not possess–or are not currently developing–a 5-year DNR recreation plan at no cost. This effort being made by EUPRPDC will not only equip participating communities with an essential prerequisite when applying for these grants, but it will strengthen the region, which has long been reliant upon its recreational offerings.
In 2015, EUPRPDC worked with Raber Township and Trout Lake Township on developing new recreation plans. Additionally, EUPRPDC reviewed recreation plans for Whitefish Township, Kinross Charter Township, Clark Township, DeTour Township and the Village of DeTour, and the City of Sault Ste. Marie.
In 2016, EUPRPDC intends to work with Bruce Township, Dafter Township, Drummond Island Township, Bois Blanc Township, Hendricks Township, Hudson Township, Newton Township, Portage Township, Hulbert Township, Chippewa Township, Bay Mills Township, and Rudyard Township. See the map below for more information on recreation plans in the EUP.
This is where draft plans, final plans, and other materials specific to townships EUPRPDC are working with will be posted. Please look in the General Materials tab if you do not see here the documents from EUPRPDC or the DNR for which you search.
ATTENTION: The 2016-2020 recreation plans for Raber Township and Trout Lake Township can be viewed under their respective tabs below. As more townships have plans developed, EUPRPDC will expand the list.
